Kyle Larson Suffered Disappointment and Victory in Saturday Night Dirt Racing

While many of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series drivers were nestled in their beds getting a good night’s sleep before Sunday’s Camping World 400, Kyle Larson was busy battling on the dirt.

Larson competed in two USAC events at Route 66 Dirt Oval.

In the opening event, the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car feature, Larson was leading the race and looked like a solid bet to win. Then, during a red flag, Larson was disqualified as one of his crew members was outside the designated work area.

Larson wasn’t done though. He still had the NOS Energy Drink National Midget “Summer Slash” Feature to go.

Larson would work his way to the lead from the sixth starting spot and he would cruise to a huge lead until JJ Yeley crashed hard to bring out a caution on lap 10.

Despite making a few errors under pressure down the stretch, Larson kept it together to hold on for the win in his No. 97 Keith Kunz Motorsports/Curb-Agajanian midget. His first USAC win of the season.

Larson set a track record lap time in the win.

Now, Larson will hope to snag his first NASCAR Cup Series points paying win of the year Sunday at Chicagoland Speedway.
