Kurt Busch has not yet been cleared to return to competition in the NASCAR Cup Series, according to a statement posted Wednesday by the driver, which states he’ll miss Sunday’s FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

“While I am continuing to make improvements every day and can’t wait to get back in the No. 45 Monster Energy Toyota Camry TRD, I have not yet been cleared to return to competition and will not be participating in the NASCAR Cup Series race this weekend at Michigan International Speedway”, the statement reads.

Ty Gibbs – who has piloted the 23XI Racing entry to a pair of top-20 results at Pocono and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course – will continue to serve in his interim role as the driver of the No. 45 Toyota Camry.

Gibbs will be running double-duty between Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series New Holland 250 and Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series FireKeepers Casino 400, meaning he’ll be running 650 miles around Michigan in race conditions this weekend.

Busch first displayed concussion-like symptoms after a crash in the second round of qualifying at Pocono Raceway, where he was then not medically cleared to compete in the following day’s event.
