Following an 11th-place finish in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Grant Park 165 at the Chicago Street Course, Joey Logano was not pleased with 10th-place finisher Ross Chastain, and he sought out his competitor on pit road to let him have an earful.

Logano put his arms out as if to say, “What was that?” as he began his post-race conversation with Chastain.

What was Logano upset about? A late-race incident between the two drivers, which also involved Ricky Stenhouse Jr., occurred with 12 laps remaining in Sunday’s rough and tumble street race in Chicago.

Chastain and Logano were involved in a skirmish in Turn 1 on the restart with 12 laps remaining in the race, and it appears that Chastain assumed Logano, who is seen passing him after the skirmish, had caused him to spin into the Turn 1 tire barrier.

However, it was Austin Cindric, who locked up his brakes behind the four-wide battle that Chastain found himself in with Ryan Preece, Kyle Larson, and Logano, which caused the dust-up in Turn 1. Cindric collided with Preece, who was on the inside of the four-wide battle. This sent Preece up into Larson, who went up into Logano, who went up into Chastain.

Heading into Turn 2, Chastain seemingly chose to exact revenge on Logano as he shipped Logano into the second Turn, and as Logano spun, he collected Ricky Stenhouse Jr., and both drivers collided with the barriers in Turn 2.

Logano was able to drive away from the scene and salvage an 11th-place finish. Stenhouse, who was collateral damage, wasn’t as fortunate, as his race was over and he was credited with a 31st-place finish.

Following the heated discussion, Logano hadn’t cooled off at all as he spoke to the media about the conversation between him and Chastain, who have had several run-ins over the last few years, including earlier this season at Circuit of the Americas.

According to Logano, Chastain admitted in their post-race talk that he intentionally crashed Logano, which Logano feels should result in a fine from NASCAR.

“Do I think so? Yes. He admitted he wrecked me on purpose,” Logano lashed. “He admitted it. Which means he should get fined if he invariably wrecked somebody on purpose. That’s not okay.”

When asked if he felt Chastain misunderstood who was to blame for the Turn 1 incident, Logano said the end result was typical of Chastain.

“It’s typical Ross, he just sees red and does dumb stuff. That’s all,” Logano explained. “That’s twice this year on road courses, at the end of these things, I’ve been cost by Ross. Just over it.”

Logano would end the chat by answering how he would race Chastain going forward. Logano said, “The same.”

Keep an eye on Logano and Chastain in next weekend’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway. We could be treated to some West Coast fireworks.
