It took five overtime finishes, and stretching the fuel tank 110 laps, but Joey Logano finally reached victory lane for the first time during the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season in Sunday’s Ally 400 at Nashville Superspeedway. As many other drivers, Denny Hamlin included, had to hit pit road over the additional 31 laps that were tacked onto the race’s distance, Logano was able to stay on track, and he held off hard-charges from rookie Zane Smith and Tyler Reddick on the final restart of the race to win.
After the race, Logano’s race-winning No. 22 Shell Pennzoil Team Penske Ford Mustang Dark Horse was taken to the inspection bay, where it received a passing grade in post-race inspection. As a result, NASCAR declared Logano and his team the official winners of the race.
This win marks the 33rd victory of Logano’s NASCAR Cup Series career, and the win virtually locks his place into the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs, where he will battle for the third NASCAR Cup Series championship of his already impressive career.
No issues were detected in post-race inspection, which means all results and standings following Sunday’s race are now considered official.
Zane Smith officially recorded his career-best result with a solid second-place effort. The Rookie of the Year contender, who drives the No. 71 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro had a season’s best finish of 13th heading into Sunday’s race.
Tyler Reddick, Ryan Preece, and Chris Buescher rounded out the top-five finishers.
