Similar to the situation between Denny Hamlin and Chase Elliott in Monday’s Coca-Cola 600, NASCAR is once again being called upon to issue a one-race suspension, in response to a driver being intentionally wrecked on track.
This week, the whistleblower is Austin Dillon, who alleges that he was intentionally crashed by Austin Cindric in the late stages of Sunday’s Enjoy Illinois 300 at World Wide Technology Raceway.
Dillon, who was forced to prematurely exit Sunday’s event as a result of the incident, spoke to members of the media after leaving the infield care center, where he discussed his displeasure towards the Team Penske driver who shares his given name.
“I was intentionally wrecked by him,” Dillon said angrily after retiring from the race. “Hooked right, just like Chase, and Denny, and Bubba’s deal. He better be suspended next week.”
The incident in question took place with 20 laps remaining in the 300-mile contest, when Dillon and Cindric made contact entering the first corner, sending the No. 3 Chevrolet Camaro up the track and into the side of Ricky Stenhouse, Jr.
Both Dillon and Stenhouse were forced to retire from the event, finishing outside the top-30, while Cindric went on to secure a 13th-place result for Team Penske in the No. 2 Ford Mustang.
In the race winner’s press conference, Richard Childress, owner of the No. 8 Chevrolet Camaro that Kyle Busch drove to victory lane, matched the energy put forward by his grandson and driver, saying that Cindric did wreck the No. 3 on purpose.
“Austin [Dillon] has had some really good runs. He drove up to 10th until [Austin Cindric] wrecked him on purpose. Sort of a payback,” said Childress after the race.
For now, whether or not Cindric will be suspended for next weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series event at Sonoma Raceway is in the hands of the sanctioning body. As usual, the sanctioning body will review the available data to make a determination on the nature of the incident.
Though, should Cindric be suspended from the next NASCAR Cup Series event at Sonoma Raceway, it would mark the second straight week that a full-time driver is sidelined from the series.

Nascar has opened up another can. Nascar has already lost it’s fan base that it once had due to changes in the sport. Now, I guess they are going to cater to some cry babies. The ones that I see crying are the same ones that have wrecked others in the past.

If I would have been an Elliot Fan and he got suspended at race I paid money for that would be my last buck to nascar wake up before you loose all your fans!! Nascry suspended Elliott for wrecking cry baby Hamlin but I haven’t seen anything about them suspending Hamlin for the wreck he caused this past weekend at gateway. Hamlin has wrecked so many drivers over the years and nascar has never done anything to the cry baby hypocrite Hamlin. Way to go nascar just keep being the hypocritical company you have become and you wonder why you have lost so many fans or people like me who used to be fans.
He is the biggest cry baby in my opinion. Probably because he hasn’t got any racing buddies.
