According to an update from LEGACY MOTOR CLUB, Erik Jones has been evaluated and released from UAB University Hospital in Birmingham, AL at 11:30 PM local time (12:30 AM ET). Jones was transported to the local hospital after returning to the infield care center at Talladega Superspeedway for a second time following a hard crash in the GEICO 500.

According to the statement, Jones will return home this evening.

The statement from LEGACY MOTOR CLUB didn’t offer any other specifics on Jones’ condition or what potential injury led to the additional hospital evaluation.

ORIGINAL STORY: Sunday, April 21 at 8:28 PM ET

While Erik Jones was checked and released from the infield care center following a massive crash in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, the driver did admit that he was sore and that he felt he had stretched his back out in the impact.

At the time, Jones said that he felt like he was fine.

“I’m sore, it just really stretched it out a lot,” Jones explained. “So, it’ll be a long week, just trying to get recovered and feeling better for next week. But I’m alright.”

After some time, Jones returned to the infield care center, and upon that second trip to the care center, the LEGACY MOTOR CLUB driver was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Jones finished 35th in Sunday’s race after being swept up in a Lap 155 crash. While the Toyota drivers were in a single-line freight train, attempting to make up time on the other drivers on track following their final pit stops of the race, contact from Bubba Wallace caused Jones to wiggle. As that happened, Jones moved to the inside, and additional contact with Wallace sent Jones hard into the outside wall.

“We were just pushing hard,” Jones explained following his initial trip to the infield care center. “[Wallace] got to me into [turn] 3, and I got pretty loose. Obviously, I ended up pretty hard into the wall. It’s unfortunate for us, it ended out day, and definitely destroyed a car.”

*Editor’s Note: As official updates on Erik Jones’ condition become available, this story will be updated.
