Denny Hamlin will head to his home track at Richmond Raceway in Virginia with a special look in this weekend’s Federated Auto Parts 400. Hamlin’s No. 11 car will be decorated with the FedEx Cares logo, as well as the hands of students throwing up their graduation caps on the sides of his Toyota Camry.

Hamlin, who, along with every other NASCAR driver, vowed to listen to members of other racial communities in the wake of the murder of George Floyd while in police custody in Minnesota back in May, will be running the race on Saturday to bring attention to the National Urban League’s #ProjectReady initiative.

On Wednesday, Hamlin released a video of a zoom call with the vice president of the National Urban League Darlene Martin as well as a couple of the students who have benefited from the program.

According to Martin, the National Urban League is, ” a full service organization operating in 90 cities across the country addressing the needs of that community.”

She went on to say that the organization, “are caring adults and volunteers helping project ready students across the nation to prepare for college, work and life.”

Hamlin, who has scored six wins for the second consecutive season in the NASCAR Cup Series, is in the thick of the championship hunt. Hamlin, who has built a Hall of Fame worthy career, would love to add the Bill France Cup to his trophy mantle.

A win at Richmond on Saturday, would secure Hamlin’s place in the Round of 12 of the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs.
