After a short period on the racetrack, inclement weather has forced NASCAR to cancel the remainder of NASCAR Cup Series practice and qualifying ahead of Sunday’s FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

Ross Chastain was quickest in the abbreviated practice session, posting a lap of 37.441 seconds (192.302mph). Martin Truex, Jr., Kyle Larson, William Byron, and Bubba Wallace were the top five.

The cancellation of Saturday’s single-vehicle NASCAR Cup Series qualifying session will have the starting lineup for the FireKeepers Casino 400 set by the NASCAR Rule Book, which uses the performance metric to set the starting grid.

By virtue of a second-place finish at Richmond Raceway last weekend, and a top-five points position, Denny Hamlin will lead the field to green in his No. 11 Yahoo! Toyota Camry XSE.

Tyler Reddick will start alongside his 23XI Racing boss Denny Hamlin to start Sunday’s event. Christopher Bell will roll from third, while Kyle Larson and Bubba Wallace will complete the top five starters.

Chase Elliott, Ross Chastain, Ryan Blaney, William Byron, and Cook Out 400 winner Austin Dillon will complete the first five rows on the starting grid for Sunday’s event.

Other notables starting outside of the top-10 include Kyle Busch (13th), Joey Logano (14th), Brad Keselowski (15th), Chris Buescher (18th), Ty Gibbs (19th), Alex Bowman (22nd), Austin Cindric (23rd), and Martin Truex, Jr. (24th),

AJ Allmendinger and Cody Ware will occupy the 18th and final row to start Sunday’s 400-mile contest from the two-mile Michigan International Speedway, as the metric is negatively balanced towards those who didn’t compete in the previous event.

The FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway will take place on Sunday, August 18 at 2:30 pm ET on USA Network, MRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Channel 90).
