2020 NASCAR Cup Series Champion Chase Elliott has captured the first heat race victory of the 2022 Chili Bowl Nationals, in his second attempt at the prestigious dirt midget event.

Elliott started from the pole position in his heat race, leading all eight laps en-route to the victory, securing him the 100 passing points awarded from winning the heats from the pole.

Mitchel Moles finished second-place, scoring 118 passing points after starting seventh, with Kinzer Edwards, Kevin Bayer, and Kala Keliioni rounding out the top five. Steve Glover, Casey Hicks, Raymond Panella, and Cannon McIntosh rounded out the nine entries in the first heat race.

The Hendrick Motorsports driver will wait out the remainder of the eight heat races tonight, before getting lined up appropriately for the evening’s qualifier races.
