Chad Johnston, a long-time crew chief in the NASCAR Cup Series, has been named the shot-caller for Jimmie Johnson and LEGACY MOTOR CLUB in 2025.

On Wednesday, the organization confirmed the selection of the seven-time NASCAR Cup Series race-winning crew chief to Racing America On SI.

Johnston, a native of Mooresville, North Carolina, has spent the last two seasons working as a full-time crew chief in the NASCAR Cup Series for Stewart-Haas Racing, paired with Ryan Preece and the No. 41 Ford Mustang Dark Horse.

On November 15, 2024, LEGACY MOTOR CLUB announced the initial hiring of the 44-year-old crew chief, who will serve as the Manager of Race Engineering beginning with the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series campaign.

In his new position, on top of being crew chief for the part-time No. 84 Toyota Camry XSE, Johnston will be focused on leading the team’s engineering department, led by Brian Campe and Jacob Canter.

Johnson is the majority owner of LEGACY MOTOR CLUB, and since joining the team’s ownership group in 2023, has been competing part-time in the No. 84 Toyota Camry XSE.

Over the last two seasons, Johnson has made 12 starts in NASCAR’s seventh-generation racecar for LEGACY MOTOR CLUB, recording a best finish of 26th last Fall at Phoenix Raceway.

This year, the seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion is only scheduled to compete in a pair of events — the Daytona 500 (February) and the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway (Memorial Day Weekend).
