ATYL: Championship Hopes Sour Early | Major Points Lead Lost (NASCAR Atlanta Analysis)

There are three certainties in life: Death, taxes, and early trouble for championship contenders.

When NASCAR released the 2024 Cup Series schedule, one thing caught people’s eyes. Many drivers shared concern when they saw that Atlanta Motor Speedway would kick off the championship fight. One of those concerned drivers was Joey Logano and no wonder! The 1.54-mile track has become one of the most unpredictable in the NASCAR schedule alongside Talladega Superspeedway and Daytona International Speedway. With the teams heading to the Peach State to set the tone for their championship run, many were on high alert.

To no surprise, Team Penske brought three incredibly fast Ford Dark Horse Mustangs worthy of a race win. With Ryan Blaney winning Stage 1 and Austin Cindric winning Stage 2, it was clear one of Roger Penske’s cars would be in victory lane. It all came down to the final overtime restart where Logano led the bottom lane with Blaney behind him. With an excellent push from the No. 12 Dent Wizard Ford, the two-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion got the lead and the win.

While the Middletown, Connecticut native had a great start to the playoffs, other drivers were not so lucky.
