Alex Bowman will not compete in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, according to a statement released by Hendrick Motorsports on Thursday.

Bowman, who drives the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet Camaro, has been sidelined after experiencing concussion-like symptoms following an accident at Texas Motor Speedway this past weekend.

The Tucson, Arizona-native is still technically eligible to capture the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series championship but was set to enter Talladega, the penultimate race of the ‘Round of 12’, 26 points below eighth-place driver, Chase Briscoe.

Noah Gragson will serve as the interim driver of the No. 48 Chevrolet Camaro this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. The Las Vegas, Nevada-native has made 13 starts in the NASCAR Cup Series this year, with the best finish of fifth at Daytona in August.

“After undergoing medical evaluation due to concussion-like symptoms, I will not be driving the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet in Talladega,” Alex Bowman said in a statement.”I’m disappointed but know my health is the number one priority. I am committed to following all medical guidance to ensure I can return to competition as soon as possible.”

This is a developing story. Additional updates will be provided as they become available.

  1. I am a huge Alex Bowman fan and was saddened to see he won’t be competing Sunday at Talladega. Did anyone else notice there was no comment (I didn’t see one.) from anyone at Hendrick Motorsports?? Remember when Kurt couldn’t return for the same reason? Co-owner Denny Hamlim made his own statement supporting Kurt Busch through his recovery (and I am not a Denny fan).
