Austin Dillon has been on a roll lately, as he scored an 11th-place finish at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday, which moved him to 14th in the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series championship standings. However, there is a chance that Dillon will not be able to compete in Wednesday night’s Blue-Emu 500 at Martinsville Speedway as he and his wife Whitney are expecting the arrival of their first child.

On Monday night’s NASCAR RaceHub on FS1, Andy Petree Richard Childress Racing’s Vice President of Competition confirmed that the team has tapped AJ Allmendinger — who won the Xfinity Series event at Atlanta this past weekend — to be on standby if needed.

Dillon is slated to start from the 22nd position in what will be the first-ever NASCAR Cup Series night race at Martinsville Speedway.

Allmendinger last competed in the NASCAR Cup Series back in the 2018 season for JTG Daugherty Racing. During that season, Allmendinger posted finishes of eighth and 14th at Martinsville.

  1. Austin, go be with your wife. You don’t want to miss that experience. AJ will do great for you and your team. Go AJ.
