Spire Motorsports has announced that Corey LaJoie, the driver of their No. 7 car, will miss this weekend’s Firekeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway due to COVID protocols.

LaJoie appeared on a Thursday edition of Sirius Speedway on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, where he explained that due to someone in the recording studio of his podcast testing positive for COVID-19, LaJoie is quarantining for seven days per NASCAR rules.

The team has announced Josh Berry, who filled in for the team’s other driver Justin Haley at Dover earlier in the year, as the fill in driver for LaJoie this weekend.

Berry, who won the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Martinsville earlier this year, and this week announced that he’ll drive for JR Motorsports full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2022, will be making his second-career NASCAR Cup Series start this weekend.

LaJoie sits 29th in the NASCAR Cup Series championship standings and has scored one top-10 finish through the season’s opening 24 races. LaJoie finished 16th this past weekend in the Verizon 200 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course.
