Austin Dillon, who is locked into the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs by way of his win at Texas Motor Speedway earlier in the season, will drop to the rear of the field before the start of Saturday night’s Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway. Every other car in the 40-car field passed inspection without issue.
Dillon’s No. 3 car failed pre-race inspection twice, but was able to pass on the third pass through the tech bay.
The North Carolina-native was set to roll from the grid from the 12th-position. For official scoring purposes and fantasy racing, Dillon will still be credited with the 12th starting spot.
Luckily for the 30-year old, Daytona is a track where a lack of track position can be made up in just a matter of a few laps thanks to the draft.
