In a day full of ups and downs on the twists and turns of Sonoma Raceway, it was NASCAR Xfinity Series regular Sam Mayer hopping behind the wheel of the No. 23 SIGMA Performance Chevy and taking the win in the General Tire 200 from winning the pole.

“Car felt really good. We fought some balance issues early, but we made really good adjustments and fired off really good in that second half,” he said post-race.

“Saving fuel there in ARCA, I never thought I’d do that. That was a lot of fun. Definitely put my skills to the test,” Mayer added.

The JR Motorsports driver was stout all afternoon in the California sun and had to hold off a hungry points leader in Tyler Reif on one lap dash on a late-race restart. This marks his second consecutive win dating back to his last win and start in 2021. This is the first win for team owner Joe Farre.

Henderson, Las Vegas native Tyler Reif was able to make the most of his day and came home second and was able to hold the points lead over third-place finisher Sean Hingorani in the Jerry Pitts No. 5.

After some big contact and putting his Starkley Soundgear No. 18 in the dirt for a bit, William Sawalich was able to rebound for a fourth-place finish, coming up short of his stellar weekend at Portland.

Jack Wood was able to sneak home in fifth, his best finish in the 2024 season so far.

Just missing out on the top five as Isabella Robusto who also had an up and down day. Other notables included Eric Johnson Jr who came home seventh after having to start at the tail and not making a qualifying run, and Brandon Jones who came home eighth after having damage on lap one.

Others left wine country on a tougher note. Issues plagued the Venturini cars of Gio Ruggiero and Brent Crews. Crews had a tire fall off in turn four while Gio had mechanical issues. Both ended their days behind the wall on 23rd and 25th.

Another driver with a tough day was Noah Gragson. After leading several laps, the No. 30 had some wheel hop and was then put behind the ball. A spin on the last lap relegated him to 16th.

Up next, the ARCA Menards Series West heads to Irwindale Speedway for a back-to-back on the July 4th weekend.
