Mid-Summer Gauntlet: Watkins Glen, Evergreen, Springfield on Docket for ARCA Tripleheader Weekend

It’s been a long and hot summer, but things are just starting to ramp up for the drivers and teams of the ARCA Menards Series, as the series enters its most difficult three-day stretch, with two points-paying events from Friday to Sunday.

On Friday (August 18), the ARCA Menards Series will contest its annual showcase at Watkins Glen International, the second and final road course event of the season, labeled the ‘General Tire 100 at The Glen’.

The drivers and teams of ARCA’s national division will then have a single day to travel to Illinois, where they’ll contest the Dutch Boy 100 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds on Sunday (August 20), the first of two dirt track races on the 2023 ARCA Menards Series calendar.

In the meantime, the spotlight will be shifted to the ARCA Menards Series West, as they’ll race at Evergreen Speedway on Saturday (August 19) for the NAPA Auto Parts ARCA 150, the eighth event of the 12-round season.

Working Overtime:

Even though there won’t be a single driver contesting all three ARCA-sanctioned events this weekend, there will be quite a few doing double duty, and one organization in particular that will have entries in all three events.

Venturini Motorsports will be sending a Toyota Camry to three different states this weekend – New York, Illinois, and California – as the team has involvement in both the ARCA Menards Series and ARCA Menards Series West.

Sean Hingorani will pilot the No. 15 Mobil 1 Toyota Camry in the ARCA West event at Evergreen, while both Jesse Love and Brent Crews will run double-duty for the organization at Watkins Glen and Springfield.

ARCA Menards Series full-timers Andres Perez de Lara, Frankie Muniz, Christian Rose, Brad Smith, Jon Garrett, and AJ Moyer will all be competing in both of the ARCA Menards Series events this weekend.

William Sawalich – driving the #18 for Joe Gibbs Racing – and Dale Quarterley – driving his family-owned #4 – will also compete in both events throughout the weekend.

Return of the Ringers:

With the ARCA Menards Series competing at two unique types of track this weekend, the ringers – both road course and dirt track – have come out in full force.

Stanton Barrett and Connor Zillisch will make their first appearances in the ARCA Menards Series this year, driving the No. 12 Fast Track Racing, and No. 28 Pinnacle Racing Group entries, respectively.

Kris Wright will also return to Venturini Motorsports for Friday’s event at Watkins Glen International, driving the No. 25, after putting together a strong run at Michigan International Speedway with the juggernaut organization.

On Sunday at Springfield, Ken Schrader will return to the ARCA Menards Series less than a week removed from becoming the oldest winner in a NASCAR-sanctioned event, winning the NASCAR Pinty’s Series event at Ohsweken Speedway.

Taylor Reimer joins the ARCA Menards Series to make her debut with Venturini Motorsports, while Kelly Kovski returns to competition for another season in the No. 16 BRANDT Chevrolet.
