It was a hot afternoon in Charlotte, but Andres Perez was able to say cool and take home the pole for the General Tire 150 tonight at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

“Super happy about the result,” the Mexico City native said post-qualifying session. This marks his second career pole and first of the year.

“We finally started this good momentum here. Charlotte is a great track to do it. Really close to the Rev Racing shop and all the work that these guys have done the last month. It’s just great,” he added.

That is not the only thing he holds the lead on, as going into tonight’s race he leads the ARCA Menards Series drivers’ points over Greg Van Alst.

Qualifying is the first set. Racing is important too, but we’re really trying to enjoy this as much as possible.

Coming up just a few hundredths short was Daytona winner Gus Dean in the Venturini No. 55.

Kansas runner-up Tanner Gray was the fastest in practice, but could only muster a third in the qualifying session. Kris Wright and Carson Kvapil rounded out the top five in the session.

Just behind the Pinnacle Racing Group’s No. 82 was their No. 28 machine for Connor Mosack, who won on the last 1.5-mile at Kansas Speedway.

Perez’s Rev Racing teammate Lavar Scott also came out strong running with a seventh-place run in the session.

Second place in points, Greg Van Alst fell just short of the top 10 and came home 13th.

While Perez celebrated, another driver felt disappointment.

Caleb Costner, sporting a new scheme and the C4 Foundation on the hood of his machine, ended up wrecked and on the tow truck during the session. Costner declined to comment to the media.

You can catch the General Tire 150 from Charlotte Motor Speedway live on Fox Sports 1 at 6 P.M. EST.
