At 66-years old, four-time NASCAR Cup Series race winner, and 18-time ARCA Menards Series race winner, Ken Schrader is set to show the world that he isn’t done going fast behind the wheel of a race car. The Missouri-native is slated to get back behind the wheel in the ARCA Menards Series September 5th at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds in the Southern Illinois 100.

The news was revealed during last weekend’s race broadcast at Springfield on MAVTV.

Schrader will drive a car for Fast Track Racing, which is a team owned by Andy Hillenburg. The combination is a reunion of sorts as Hillenburg drove for Schrader’s ARCA team back in the 1990s, and even won the opening race of the 1995 season at Daytona International Speedway in Schrader’s No. 52 machine.

Schrader, a legendary racer, has three previous wins in ARCA Menards Series competition at the one-mile dirt track in Illinois. Schrader won the ARCA events in 2006, 2007 and 2013. Now, he’ll look to add a fourth win to his tally in a couple of weeks.

While Schrader hasn’t competed in ARCA since a one-off start at DuQuoin in 2019, where he started on the pole and finished eighth, the cagey veteran has been staying sharp driving in the sportsman nationals at the “Springfield Mile” at the Illinois State Fairgrounds.

According to OutsideGroove.com, Schrader took the victory in that event with a 29-year old car.

Of course, there will be adversity to overcome for the Fast Track Racing team, as their team hauler caught fire this past weekend, damaging a lot of equipment. Fortunately, the team’s race cars and pit boxes were saved, but a lot of other items were lost to the fire.

If Schrader and Fast Track can combine for a great finish, or even a win, it would be a massive shot in the arm to the team, which needs some good luck to fall their way.
