Only 10 days removed from his violent accident at Talladega Superspeedway, ARCA Menards Series driver Derrick Lancaster has been released from the hospital and is heading back home to Virginia, according to the latest update from his wife, Beth.

In the closing stages of the General Tire 200 at Talladega Superspeedway (April 24), Lancaster was involved in a single-car accident exiting turn two, which saw the 48-year-old take a violent impact to the outside wall, with his vehicle eventually catching fire, making Lancaster’s exit from his Toyota Camry more difficult.

Following the accident, Lancaster was immediately airlifted to the University of Alabama Birmingham Burn Center for additional treatment and evaluation, where is was discovered he had suffered lung damage – which required him to be put onto a ventilator — as well as second and third degree burns on his neck, face and both arms.
