When it comes to the ovals in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series, it appears as though there is no stopping Treyten Lapcevich, who dominated the second of Wednesday’s Leland Industries Twin 125s at Sutherland Automotive Speedway.

Starting from the outside of the front row, a result of having the second-fastest lap in the first 125-lap feature, Lapcevich wasn’t afraid to be aggressive early, making his way around polesitter Donald Theetge to lead the opening stint.

Granted, the triumph in the second 125-lap feature wasn’t as simple as the first, as the driver of the No. 20 Chevrolet Camaro got roughed up and lost the lead, and second place, to Alex Guenette and Donald Theetge.

However, the Grimsby, Ontario native settled into a rhythm and continued to keep himself in the rearview mirror of the leaders, before taking advantage of a strong long-run vehicle to retake the lead shortly thereafter.

With 75 laps remaining, the 22 Racing driver had returned to the lead, beginning to stretch out his margin over the second-place runner, which eventually ended up being his teammate Alex Tagliani, who scored the win on the streets of Toronto last month.

“I’m speechless, honestly,” said Lapcevich. “What a day for the GSR / FBM / Delta Bingo No. 20 team, and what a great day for 22 Racing, to come one-two in the second race. I just gotta thank my guys that made this possible, and I appreciate all the fans welcoming us here in Western Canada. So, a great day for us.”

Tagliani, who came home in second place, finished 8.632 seconds behind race winner Lapcevich. LP Dumoulin, after having rear-end issues in the first event, bounced back to finish the race in third.

Brandon Watson and Marc-Antoine Camirand rounded out the top five in Wednesday’s eighth event of the 2023 NASCAR Pinty’s Series season.

The second 125-lap twin from Sutherland Automotive Speedway marks the first-ever NASCAR Pinty’s Series event on an oval to go caution-free, and just the third race in series history to do so.

Leaving Saskatoon, Lapcevich has nearly doubled his points lead in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series in one night, now holding a 40-point advantage over Marc-Anotine Camirand. Kevin Lacroix, Alex Tagliani, and LP Dumoulin round out the top five in points.

Up next on the schedule for the NASCAR Pinty’s Series is a trip to Quebec for the Grand Prix of Trois Riviere at GP3R on Sunday, August 6th.
