After an adversity-filled weekend at Edmonton International Raceway, Treyten Lapcevich came out of the gate swinging, dominating Wednesday’s Leland Industries Twin 125 #1 at Sutherland Automotive Speedway.
Scoring the pole position for the seventh event of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series season, Lapcevich held the lead throughout the entirety of Wednesday’s 125-lap contest, leaving the field in the dust to score his fourth win of 2023.
The 19-year-old driver is now a six-time winner in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series, which ties him for 11th on the series all-time win list with Alex Labbe and older brother Cayden Lapcevich.
Donald Theetge managed to be the closest competitor for the No. 20 Chevrolet Camaro throughout the entire event, despite fading to fifth in the middle portion of the event.
The 56-year-old driver would rebound to second place by the end of the event, finishing 2.504 seconds behind the eventual race winner. Marc-Antoine Camirand, the series’ most recent winner and Lapcevich’s biggest title threat came home in third.
Alex Tagliani and Alex Guenette completed the top five in Wednesday’s first Twin 125. Andrew Ranger finished sixth, with Brandon Watson, Dexter Stacey, Kevin Lacroix, and DJ Kennington completing the top-10.
LP Dumoulin, one of four drivers to have finished inside the top-10 in every event this season, finished in 18th, after a substantial problem in the early laps of the event, sending him to the garage to fix a rear end gear.
The three-time NASCAR Pinty’s Series champion would return to the track in the closing laps of the event, meaning he should be fine to compete in the second of two 125-lap events from Saskatoon.
At the halfway point of the 2023 NASCAR Pinty’s Series season, Treyten Lapcevich has been an absolute beast when it comes to the standings, holding the points lead by 31 markers over Marc-Antoine Camirand.
Kevin Lacroix (-34), Alex Tagliani (-49), and LP Dumoulin (-55) round out the top five in NASCAR Pinty’s Series point standings with seven events remaining on the season.
The starting lineup for the second Twin 125 at Sutherland Automotive Speedway will be set by the fastest lap run throughout the 125-lap event run earlier, meaning Donald Theetge will sit on the pole. Lapcevich, Tagliani, Guenette, Watson, Camirand, Ranger, Dumoulin, Kennington, and Stacey will start in the top-10 as well.
