All seemed to be going well for 22-year-old phenom Corey Heim, who was in search of his second consecutive NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series victory in Friday’s Baptist Health 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway before Heim’s truck had shut off on him in the closing five laps of the race.
Heim swept both stages in Friday’s 134-lap contest, leading a race-high 78 laps before trouble arose for the No. 11 Safelite Toyota Tundra TRD Pro team.
As the Marietta, Georgia native circled around the mile-and-a-half oval with five laps remaining, the truck began to lose power, forcing Heim to cycle the power unit on his vehicle.
The temporary loss of power resulted in Heim coasting down the frontstretch, handing the race lead to Layne Riggs with only three laps remaining.
Corey Heim’s truck started shutting off again and it gave Kyle Larson the chance he needed.

Heim would fall back to third after Kyle Larson, who had recovered from a spin and climbed from 22nd to victory in just under 40 laps, would hold onto the third-place finish, scoring his third top-five finish of 2025.
“Yeah, it stinks,” said Heim following a disappointing end to his dominant night.
“I feel like we were lights out, the best truck tonight. Think we should’ve won the race by six, seven seconds at the end there. I feel like at the beginning of the runs, I knew what we were capable of and let those guys get away, burn their stuff up, and then, fly past them.”
Heim commented about how the problems that arose in his truck ultimately affected the outcome of the race for the 13-time Truck Series winner.
“I don’t know exactly what was going on. Never really had an issue like that. I’d be totally fine, and the engine would just hard-cut on me. The dash would go black and have no power until I fully cycled it. So, I was coasting for six seconds trying to turn the power switch and turn it back (on). I don’t know. Felt I ran a really good race, saving tires and would mow them down on the long runs there.”
The 13-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series winner will look to keep the pedal down as he leaves Homestead-Miami Speedway with the series points lead by eight points over Ty Majeski.
Heim will head to Martinsville Speedway, a racetrack in which he’s captured a victory previously. The event will take place on Friday, March 28 at 7:30 PM on FS1.
