Will Power led a straightforward practice session for the NTT IndyCar Series for this weekend’s doubleheader at Iowa Speedway.

Piloting the No. 12 Team Penske Chevrolet, the 41-year-old Aussie logged 90 laps and put down a flying lap of 173.285 mph to surge to the top spot in the late running.

Conor Daly had the No. 20 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet out front for the majority of the session before falling to second by 0.0049s.

Scott McLaughlin cleaned up in third to give Team Penske two spots in the top three. Reigning IndyCar champion Alex Palou completed the most laps with 119 circuits around the 0.894-mile oval, and ending up placing the No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda in fourth. The No. 5 Arrow McLaren SP Chevrolet of Pato O’Ward ended up fifth.

Championship leader Marcus Ericsson put the No. 8 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda sixth, ahead of three-time Iowa winner Josef Newgarden in seventh. Graham Rahal ended up eighth.

In ninth was Jimmie Johnson, who is making his first-ever start at the Newton, Iowa-based bullring. Six-time IndyCar champion Scott Dixon, who picked up his first win of the season last weekend on the Streets of Toronto, was 10th.

There were a pair of cautions during the session, both for track inspection.
