NASHVILLE — In a Team Penske 1-2-3, Scott McLaughlin led the second IndyCar practice session for Sunday’s Music City Grand Prix.

The New Zealand racer sped around the 11-turn, 2.1-mile street circuit in 1 minute, 15.4609s. The No. 2 Team Penske Chevrolet averaged 100.184 mph. Josef Newgarden was second-fastest, 0.2945s slower than his teammate. Will Power was third-fastest, .0861 seconds slower than the Nashville native.

The Team Penske trio led Alexander Rossi in fourth place in the No. 27 Andretti Autosport Honda. Behind Rossi was Kyle Kirkwood in the No. 14 A. J. Foyt Racing Chevrolet in fifth place.

Rinus VeeKay hit the wall exiting Turn 9 that resulted in the session’s only red flag. After the safety team got VeeKay started, the Dutch racer who recently signed a multi-year contract extension with Ed Carpenter Racing went back to the pits.

Several other drivers had issues with brakes locking up or light contact, including Graham Rahal, Devlin DeFrancesco, Marcus Ericsson and Felix Rosenqvist among others.

Qualifying for the Music City Grand Prix begins at 4:30 p.m. ET with coverage starting at the same time on Peacock.
