Another silly season domino for the NTT IndyCar Series has fallen as Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing announced a contract extension for Christian Lundgaard.
Lundgaard currently leads the Rookie of the Year points battle and finished second at the July race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course in the No. 30 Honda. The Danish racer qualified third for the most recent IndyCar race on the streets of Nashville but finished eighth after running as high as second with five laps to go.
“I have to say a big thanks to Bobby (Rahal), David (Letterman) and Mike (Lanigan) for giving me this opportunity to extend my time with the team,” Lundgaard said in a team release. “We’ve had some good results lately and I’m sure this has also helped their decision. First of all, I’m just happy and super excited that they gave me this opportunity. A year ago at the (IMS) Grand Prix, we qualified well and they decided that they wanted me for a full season and we made the most of the opportunity so far. I’m sure there are times when we could have performed better, but now we have the opportunity to continue this progress.”
Lundgaard’s season started slowly but improved after a 10th place finish at Road America. Since that race, the 2017 Spanish F4 champion has finished lower than 11th once, and that result was due to a mechanical failure.
