After a week off for North America’s premier open-wheel racing competition, the stars of the NTT IndyCar Series do battle in the sport’s backyard. The month of May is ready to start and it gears up with the eighth edition of the GMR Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course on Saturday.
The fifth round of the 2022 season rolls in with now two teams earning victories: Arrow McLaren SP and Team Penske. Pato O’Ward won at Barber Motorsports Park, while it was an up and down day for Josef Newgarden, finishing 14th.
Defending series champion Alex Palou now leads the overall standings by three points over Scott McLaughlin, with Newgarden tucked down to third. Rinus VeeKay, coming off his first podium of the season, scored his only victory to date at this event last year.
Indy Lights enter its third event on the season, Linus Lundqvist grabbed the checkered flag at Barber in a thrilling battle with Benjamin Peterson. Lundqvist is championship leader, nine points on Peterson with Matt Brabham 12 points back.
