Chip Ganassi Racing is suing its current driver and reigning NTT IndyCar Series champion Alex Palou, who recently signed a deal with McLaren Racing for 2023.

The case, filed in Marion County, against the 25-year-old Spaniard and ALPA Racing USA, LLC, must be responded to with 20 days after receiving the summons on July 26.

A statement from CGR said, “Alex Palou is under contract with Chip Ganassi Racing through the end of the 2023 season. He is a valued member of our team, and we will continue to support him in chasing wins, podiums, and IndyCar championships.

“As the result of a competing racing team improperly attempting to contract with him notwithstanding the clear terms of our contract, we are proceeding to legal process pursuant to the contract.

“Any and all inquiries on the matter will be handled by our legal counsel.”

Ganassi has requested a hearing be held before the end of August. There was nothing in the documents or statements to suggest anything was filed against McLaren Racing.

There are a number of documents restricted from public viewing, but listed are McLaren’s announcement of Palou joining them next season, along with McLaren’s social media post confirming Palou. Additionally, Palou’s tweet denying a press release from Chip Ganassi Racing where he denied a quote and confirmed his departure from the team at the end of 2022 is listed.
