BIRMINGHAM, Ala.— Sunday morning warmup for the Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix went mostly without incident as Alexander Rossi set the session’s fastest lap.
The 2016 Indianapolis 500 winner set a fastest lap of 1 minute, 6.6677 seconds, averaging 124.198 mph around the 17-turn, 2.3-mile natural terrain road course. Colton Herta was second, .1245 seconds slower than the No. 7 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet while Scott Dixon was third, .0616 seconds behind Herta.
Callum Ilott had a brief off track excursion in his No. 77 Juncos Hollinger Racing Chevrolet but kept the car off of the barrier.
Rossi will start the 90-lap race in 10th. The race will air live on NBC starting at 2:00 p.m. Central time.
