Alex Palou denied an announcement made by Chip Ganassi Racing earlier today revealing the option to extend his contract was picked up.

The 25-year-old Spaniard and defending champion of the NTT IndyCar Series shared via social media that he the news was done “without my approval” and also cited the quote in the press release “did not come from me.”

Palou is in the midst of his third season in North America’s premier open-wheel championship, and second with Ganassi. He confirmed he will not continue with the team beyond this season. Palou currently sits fourth in the championship standings, 35 points behind teammate and leader Marcus Ericsson.
