After a major accident in the late stages of Saturday’s General Tire 200 at Talladega Superspeedway, Scott Melton has posted an update to his Facebook page, regarding his condition.

The 60-year-old was involved in a massive seven-car accident with under 30 to go in Saturday’s ARCA Menards Series event, which saw him t-bone Eric Caudell at the tail-end of the wreck.

After the Talladega Superspeedway safety crew had to cut the roof off of Melton’s No. 69 Kimmel Racing Ford Fusion, the part-time ARCA Menards Series driver was loaded onto a stretcher and into the ambulance and eventually being airlifted to a local hospital.

“Today didn’t go as planned,” Melton said in an update posted to Facebook.

“Currently, I’m in the hospital, after some nice gentleman offered me a helicopter ride, in Birmingham, Alabama. I will have surgery first thing in the morning to repair a compound fracture on my lower left leg. Sounds like a fairly simple procedure. Hoping to fly home tomorrow. Apparently, we won’t be in the late model at Salem tomorrow.”
