It’s going to be a long and difficult road for 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson, if he’s hoping to leave Tulsa, Oklahoma on Thursday with a guaranteed spot in Saturday’s Chili Bowl Nationals A-Main.Larson, competing for Keith Kunz Motorsports-Curb-Agajanian, was racing for fifth place with Christopher Townsend during the fourth heat race in Thursday’s preliminary night action, when the two drivers made heavy contact.

When the two drivers locked wheels, Townsend, driving the No. 45T, was launched skywards towards the outside catchfence, while Larson, in the No. 98K, went for a wild ride himself, spending several moments on his lid, before rolling to his side.

Both drivers were able to exit their vehicles under power, but neither was able to continue in the event, which will likely leave them out of qualifiers for Thursday’s action, and starting at the front of the field in the C-Mains.

Larson is looking to get as close to locking into Saturday’s big show as possible, as he looks to run double-duty in the Wild West Shootout in New Mexico, before flying to Tulsa, Oklahoma for the Chili Bowl Nationals on Saturday.
