Dawson Cram has been selected to compete full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for JD Motorsports in 2024, driving the No. 4 Chevrolet Camaro, the team announced on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old driver has spent the last four seasons competing part-time in both the NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, having collected a total of 43 starts for various organizations of different budgets.

“Dawson brings us a bright new perspective and a fire for racing,” said Johnny Davis, owner of JD Motorsports. “He and his family have been involved in the sport since he was 5 years old, and we want to help him take his career to the next level. He’ll be a great addition to our team.”

However, the season-opener at Daytona International Speedway in February won’t be Cram’s first experience with JD Motorsports, as the Mooresville, North Carolina-native has previously worked with the organization as a mechanic as he continued to learn the intricacies of the sport.

“I’m very excited to move along in NASCAR with Johnny’s team,” Cram said. “I’ve seen how they work and how they race every week, and I know they build good cars and fast cars. I know this will be a plus for me and the team.”

Last season, Cram competed for a number of organizations throughout NASCAR’s National Series, including being the primary driver of CHK Racing’s (now Mike Harmon Racing) NASCAR Xfinity Series entry, where he qualified for six events.

Cram made a total of nine events in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2023, adding on a three-race stint with Bobby Dotter and SS GreenLight Racing, where he scored a career-best finish of 19th place at Kansas Speedway.

Residing in North Carolina, Cram began his racing career racing mini-dwarf cars at the age of five, and quickly progressed through Bandolero and Legends Car racing before jumping into NASCAR on a part-time basis.

At this time, JD Motorsports is still looking for marketing partners, as well as drivers for its second entry, the No. 6 Chevrolet. Additional announcements regarding Cram’s efforts, as well as the team’s second car, will be forthcoming.
