Austin Cindric and Ty Gibbs both received some damage following an accident in the closing laps of the race’s second stage, with Cindric getting the worst of it.

Austin Cindric and Ty Gibbs have collected damage to their vehicles in Sunday’s Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway, after a multi-car accident in the closing laps of the event’s second stage.

The accident started as a result of side-by-side racing between Cindric and Gibbs, when the No. 2 Ford Mustang started to drift up the track, getting into the side of the NASCAR Cup Series rookie.

Aric Almirola, who was watching the incident unfold just in front of him, also collected some minor damage on his No. 10 Smithfield Ford Mustang, as he was trying to get inside to avoid the incident.

On top of that, the incident also had some championship implications, after Ryan Preece got into the back of Christopher Bell, sending the No. 20 Yahoo! Toyota Camry spinning in turn two. However, the Norman, Oklahoma driver didn’t collect major damage.

Cindric, Gibbs, Almirola, Preece, and Bell were all able to continue in the race with the damage they suffered, but Cindric would find himself one lap off the pace.
