Carson Hocevar has been named the driver of LEGACY MOTOR CLUB’s No. 42 Sunseeker Resort Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway.
The team made the announcement on Monday morning.

This will mark the second NASCAR Cup Series start of Hocevar’s young career. The 20-year-old impressed in his series debut at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway, as he ran as high as the top 15 in the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.
Ultimately, a brake failure led to a crash on Lap 92, and a 36th-place finish. But everyone knew the young racer was there that day. Hocevar, who has had a phenomenal season in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, is excited for the opportunity.
“This is a great opportunity to get some seat time in the Cup Series and help out the team at LEGACY M.C.,” said Hocevar in a team release. “I had the chance earlier this year to race at St. Louis in the Cup Series. I’m looking forward to working with Luke (Lambert) and the No. 42 team, and if anyone knows how to get around Darlington, Erik Jones does, so it will be great to have him as a teammate.”
With Hocevar stepping into the No. 42 NASCAR Cup Series entry, he will no longer pilot the No. 77 Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports in the NASCAR Xfinity Series this weekend at Darlington Raceway. LEGACY MOTOR CLUB, who have been filling their season with a driver rotation since the suspension and then release of Noah Gragson, the original full-time driver of the No. 42 car, thanked the Spire Motorsports team for allowing them to utilize Hocevar for Darlington.
“Carson is a very talented driver and has a bright future,” said Cal Wells III, CEO of LEGACY M.C. “We are thankful to Chevrolet, Spire Motorsports, and Niece Motorsports for making this happen and look forward to seeing what he can do in the No. 42 this weekend.”
Through 17 starts in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 2023, Hocevar has amassed three victories, and he sits fourth in the championship standings after two races in the Playoffs Round of 10.
Hocevar also has two top-10 finishes in five NASCAR Xfinity Series starts this season.
