Josh Berry, a championship contender in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for JR Motorsports, has been selected to compete for LEGACY MOTOR CLUB in the NASCAR Cup Series event at Daytona International Speedway, the team announced on Friday.

The Hendersonville, Tennessee-native will get behind the wheel of the No. 42 Sunseeker Resorts Chevrolet Camaro for the event at the 2.5-mile superspeedway, marking the first NASCAR Cup Series start on a superspeedway for Berry.

“I can’t thank everyone at LEGACY MOTOR CLUB enough for giving me the opportunity to drive the No. 42 again next weekend at Daytona,” said Berry. “I haven’t driven these cars on a superspeedway yet, but I’ve got great teammates in Erik Jones and Jimmie Johnson that I can lean on throughout the week to be up to speed for Saturday night.”

Berry, a five-time winner in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, currently sits fifth in points in the second-tier series, having recorded eight top-five and 13 top-10 finishes this year in the No. 8 Chevrolet Camaro for JR Motorsports.

The 32-year-old has also made a total of nine starts in the NASCAR Cup Series this season, a result of taking on three different interim roles at different points in the season, including a pair of multi-race stints in a Hendrick Motorsports entry.

At Michigan, when LEGACY MOTOR CLUB elected to suspend Noah Gragson for his actions on social media, Berry was tapped as the last-minute fill-in for the No. 42 Chevrolet Camaro, where he crashed and finished 34th.

“We appreciate the cooperation of JR Motorsports and look forward to Josh driving the No. 42 Chevy at Daytona,” said VP of Race Operations Joey Cohen. “Josh stepped in at Michigan and fit in great with the team. He understands the need to work together at superspeedways as a teammate and can help LEGACY M.C. have a solid points day and contest for the win.”

The Coke Zero Sugar 400, the final race of the NASCAR Cup Series regular season, will take place on August 26th, at 7:00 PM ET, on NBC, MRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
