Chase Elliott is out of Sunday’s FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway, after a flat right-rear tire sent his No. 9 into the outside wall.

Chase Elliott will be the second driver to retire from Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series event at Michigan International Speedway after a right-rear tire went down on the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro entering the first corner.

The Hendrick Motorsports driver was running inside the top-10 at the time of the incident, as he looked to gain stage points and move himself closer to the cutline for the NASCAR Cup Series post-season.

Now, after a major accident in the first corner at Michigan, Elliott will have a 37th-place finish to his detriment, as he’ll likely sit in a must-win situation with only three races remaining in the regular season – Indy, Watkins Glen, and Daytona.

The driver from Dawsonville, Georgia will be the second driver to fall victim to Michigan International Speedway on Sunday, after Kyle Busch crashed early in the event, ending his afternoon early.
