Luke Fenhaus Steals Victory from William Sawalich on Overtime Restart at Iowa

After losing Tuesday’s Slinger Nationals to Ty Majeski in the closing laps, Luke Fenhaus didn’t really waste any time in learning from his mistakes, using a late-race restart to secure the victory in Saturday’s Calypso 150 at Iowa Speedway.

The 19-year-old driver maintained a running position of second place throughout the entirety of Saturday’s 150-lap contest, but was able to sit tight and wait until an overtime restart – triggered by Conner Jones – to make his move for the victory.

In the two-lap dash, Fenhaus got as good of a restart as possible, staying alongside race dominator William Sawalich throughout the first set of corners, slightly sliding his Pinnacle Racing Group Chevrolet up the track, and clearing the Joe Gibbs Racing driver.

Similar to his first ARCA East victory at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, Fenhaus only led the race’s final two laps en route to the win. In both events, the Wausau, Wisconsin had to pass a dominant William Sawalich to get the job done.

In winning Saturday’s Calypso 150, Fenhaus is the second driver this season to capture a victory in the ARCA Menards Series on debut as the 150-lap contest from Iowa Speedway marked a combination event with the East Series.

William Sawalich, the championship leader in the ARCA Menards Series East, came home in the runner-up position, after leading 154 of 156 laps in the event, including the entire scheduled distance of Saturday’s race.

Jesse Love, who leads the ARCA Menards Series point standings, finished in third place, on a night where the Venturini Motorsports team struggled to find race-winning speed, with the No. 20 running outside the top five on pace at times throughout the evening.

Lavar Scott came home in fourth place, while Toni Breidinger matched a career-high fifth-place result for Venturini Motorsports, on a night that saw the No. 25 bring a myriad of speed to the track.

Andres Perez de Lara was able to recover from an early-race issue where his window net came unlatched to finish sixth, after making an unscheduled pit stop during the first 50-lap segment of the event.

Christian Rose finished seventh, with Conner Jones, Frankie Muniz, and Jon Garrett rounding out the top-10 in the ninth event of the ARCA Menards Series season.

As the ARCA Menards Series approaches the halfway point of the season, Love has increased his points margin to 49 points over second-place Frankie Muniz, who continues to search for funding to continue running the full season. Andres Perez de Lara, Christian Rose, and Jon Garrett complete the top five in points.

With only three races remaining in the ARCA Menards Series East season (IRP, Milwaukee, and Bristol), William Sawalich holds an 11-point advantage over Luke Fenhaus, winner of Saturday’s 150-miler. Lavar Scott, Zachary Tinkle, and Tim Monroe round out the top five.
