Kyle Kirkwood found himself upside down in turn two at Indianapolis, after a crash involving him and Felix Rosenqvist that sent a tire flying over the catchfence.

INDIANAPOLIS — Felix Rosenqvist’s light wall contact exiting Turn 1 on Lap 183 of the 2023 Indianapolis 500 set off a chain reaction that resulted in a tire coming off of Kyle Kirkwood’s car and hitting a passenger car outside of Turn 2.

Rosenqvist briefly brushed the wall exiting Turn 1, causing the No. 6 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet to hit the wall multiple times with damaged suspension. As the Swede tried to move his car down to the warmup lane in Turn 2, the car spun and collected Kirkwood.

Kirkwood’s No. 27 Andretti Autosport Honda turned upside down, shearing off its left rear tire and hitting the outside wall in the process.

The tire ended up hitting a white passenger car parked between the Southeast Vista and the Turn 2 VIP suites.

Both Rosenqvist and Kirkwood exited their cars and were taken to the infield care center. No injuries have been reported so far.
