Editor’s Note: Initial communications from the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office indicated that Britton Settle was arrested on two separate charges, including second-degree trespassing. However, after obtaining the arrest warrant from the Wilkes Country Sheriff’s Office, it was revealed that there were no charges for trespassing issued to Settle. This has been updated in the story below.
While the NASCAR All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway may not have provided a lot of fireworks on the track, two race fans provided fireworks from the stands.
In a video that was shared to Twitter, which has since been deleted, two men got into a fistfight during a green-flag run in Sunday night’s NASCAR All-Star Race.
The two men, one wearing a white shirt, and the other wearing a gray shirt, got in several good shots at one another before police were able to break the two men apart.
According to the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Department, the man in the white shirt was the Britton Settle, 26, of Elkin, North Carolina. The Sheriff’s Department says that Settle was the aggressor in the altercation, and was removed from the stands and ejected from the racetrack, but charges were not filed by the man in the gray shirt.
However, that’s not where the story ends.
Determined to watch the conclusion of the NASCAR All-Star Race, Settle re-entered North Wilkesboro Speedway and was promptly arrested on Intoxicated and Disruptive charges.
This incident is a real shame because the vibe at North Wilkesboro Speedway was super positive all week long, and fans showed up in droves in support of the race. It appears that a couple of guys had a few too many drinks, or someone said something they shouldn’t have and the fight was on.
Fortunately, while it appeared several in the crowd around the men were worried about the situation, it doesn’t appear that anyone else was brought into the action on accident.
That being said, Logan Kerr of the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office explained to TobyChristie.com that with more than 30,000 people on-site at North Wilkesboro Speedway for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Race, there was only one arrest made throughout the day and night.
Kerr states that considering the flowing libations, and excitement around racing throughout the day, it should be considered an absolute success that there was only one arrest performed throughout the weekend at the track.
