Spire Motorsports announced today that it is withdrawing its No. 77 NASCAR Xfinity Series entry from this weekend’s A-Game 200 at Dover Motor Speedway. The team, which was going to make its series debut, cited the poor weather forecast for the weekend as its reason for withdrawing from the event.

In a post uploaded to Twitter, the team announced they are going to attempt the race at Darlington Raceway next weekend to make up for withdrawing from Dover.

The official statement from the team on Twitter read, “Due to weather, we’ve decided to withdraw the #77 and @CarsonHocevar from the race at @MonsterMile. With the potential for qualifying to be rained out and us not make the show, we decided it’s better to pump the brakes until @TooToughToTame.”

Spire Motorsports had previously announced other races for the No. 77 NASCAR Xfinity Series entry in 2023 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Nashville Superspeedway, Michigan International Speedway, Darlington Raceway (fall), and Bristol Motor Speedway.

This weekend’s event at Dover was also originally going to mark the NASCAR Xfinity Series debut for driver Carson Hocevar, however, Hocevar made his series debut in the Pit Boss 250 at Circuit of the Americas, filling in for Blaine Perkins, who had departed from the SS GreenLight Racing team.

Hocevar piloted the No. 07 entry to a 38th-place finish after his race ended after just seven laps due to a transmission issue.

The 20-year-old has one-career victory in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, which came at Texas Motor Speedway earlier this season. Hocevar sits 13th in the NCTS point standings after the season’s opening seven races.
