ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Louis Foster begins his 2023 Indy NXT campaign on pole position for the first race of the season on the streets of St. Petersburg.

The 2022 USF Pro 2000 champion went around the 14-turn, 1.8-mile street circuit in 1 minute, 5.1103 seconds to average 99.523 mph. The No. 26 Andretti Autosport entry beat Jacob Abel’s No. 51 Abel Motorsports’s entry by .0660 seconds.

The qualifying session had only eight minutes of green flag running, which was enough time to get all 19 cars to turn seven laps each. Only Jagger Jones had an issue when he caused a local yellow flag during the session, losing his best lap time to that point.

Session results:

  1. Louis Foster
  2. Jacob Abel
  3. Christian Rasmussen
  4. Rasmus Lindh
  5. Kyffin Simpson
  6. Nolan Siegel
  7. Danial Frost
  8. Reece Gold
  9. Matteo Nannini
  10. Josh Green
  11. Enaam Ahmed
  12. Hunter McElrea
  13. Jagger Jones
  14. Colin Kaminsky
  15. Josh Pierson
  16. James Roe
  17. Ernie Francis Jr.
  18. Jamie Chadwick
  19. Christian Bogle
