AJ Allmendinger scored his first-ever Superspeedway victory in a photo finish over Sam Mayer in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Talladega. Screengrab from USA Network broadcast.

HOLY MOLY! AJ Allmendinger, the driver who absolutely despises Superspeedway racing, has finally captured a win in a race at one. In Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series Sparks 300 at Talladega Superspeedway, it looked like Sam Mayer had the race won on the final lap.

Then, Allmendinger got one last charge, and fired his No. 16 car to the outside lane and somehow edged out the young JR Motorsports driver for the win by 0.015 sec.

Here is a replay of the incredible finish of Saturday’s Xfinity Series race:

As you notice, Allmendinger had an incredible shove from his Kaulig Racing teammate Landon Cassill down the backstretch, which gave him a great chance to take the race lead.

Allmendinger opted to wait and when he and Cassill reached turns three and four, Cassill gave him another incredible push. Allmendinger carried the momentum to the outside lane. Mayer attempted to block, but there was no doing. Allmendinger was there, and he had exactly what he needed to score the victory.

Here is another look at just how close the finish was:

Incredible finish.
