Forecast Discussion & Updates

Charlotte Motor Speedway, May 2022

A cold front is expected to move across the Charlotte area later tonight. This pattern is now expected to bring thunderstorms to the region Friday, in the afternoon & early evening hours. Storms are expected to weaken during the evening hours, leaving me optimistic for the Truck race, though earlier on-track activities could be at risk for delays or cancellations.

The actual low-pressure center is expected to move across the mid-Atlantic region Saturday, bringing a trough of low pressure. While the morning hours will be clear, there is a risk of increasing clouds for the Xfinity race, along will late afternoon showers & thunderstorms.

Behind the front, a ridge of high pressure will extend across the eastern third of the US. The Sunday forecast is drier but skies will be variably cloudy during the afternoon/early evening hours.
