Kyle Larson went for a spin, battling Kyle Busch on lap 55. Then, Larson suffered mechanical issues later in the race.

We won’t see Kyle Larson taking Tim Richmond’s throwback paint scheme to victory lane in the 2022 Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway, as the defending Series champion had a rough day.

While battling Kyle Busch for second place in the opening Stage of the race, Larson got into the gas a little early in the center of the corner and went for a spin in turn 4.

Here’s video of Larson’s spin on lap 55:

Following the lap 55 spin, things went from bad to worse for Larson, as he suffered mechanical issues and went behind the wall after 112 laps.

After officially retiring for the day, Larson spoke about his engine failure.

“Bummer. Our car was super good today,” Larson said. “So, that’s promising. I feel like maybe we may have hit on something this weekend. Hate that we’re not going to get the finish we deserve, but proud of my team.”
