Trevor Bayne, who last competed in the NASCAR Cup Series back in 2018, will be on standby for Kyle Busch this weekend at Darlington Raceway and next weekend at Kansas Speedway, as Busch awaits the arrival of his second child, which will come by way of a surrogate.

A Joe Gibbs Racing representative confirmed Bayne being on standby to TobyChristie.com. Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports had the first report of Bayne being the standby driver.

Busch, 37, has a win this season and sits fourth in the NASCAR Cup Series championship standings. Busch, who will see his current contract expire following the 2022 season, has been in contract negotiations with Joe Gibbs Racing this season.

Bayne, 31, was hired by Joe Gibbs Racing as one of the many drivers behind the wheel of the organization’s No. 18 NASCAR Xfinity Series ride for this season. In three starts this season, Bayne has scored a pole and two top-five finishes for JGR.
