Hailie Deegan – who finished third in 2021 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Rookie of The Year standings — is expected to return to David Gilliland Racing for the 2022 season, a team representative tells TobyChristie.com.

The 20-year-old will enter her fourth season as part of the organization’s roster in some capacity, and the second as a full-time driver in the NASCAR Truck Series.

“All expectations are that that team [the No. 1 team] will stay the same as this year,” a DGR representative told TobyChristie.com when asked about the status of Deegan and crew chief Mike Hillman Jr.

In her rookie season, Deegan recorded a single top-10 result at Gateway, the best finish for a female driver at a non-superspeedway (seventh). Through 22 races, the Temecula, California native recorded an average finish of 20.9, ranking 18th of drivers who ran more than half of the schedule.

Deegan will once again serve as a teammate to Tanner Gray next season, while Taylor Gray – due to his age — will continue to race part-time in the season, with a schedule dependent on his endeavors in the ARCA Menards Series, and therefore, to be determined.

“Taylor will run a very similar schedule to the one he ran this year. Obviously, his age still dictates where he is able to race. It should shake out to around 9 truck races in addition to his ARCA schedule.”

As for Deegan, it’s yet to be seen if she’ll break onto the scene of the NASCAR Xfinity Series this season, as an August report by Adam Stern noted outlined as a possibility for her, but regardless, she’ll have another season to develop her craft in the NASCAR Truck Series.
