Sad news from JR Motorsports, as the team has shared the news of the passing of Harrold Annett, Michael Annett’s father. A release from JR Motorsports states that Annett passed away on Monday after a brief illness.

“We are heartbroken at the news of Harrold Annett’s passing,” said Kelley Earnhardt Miller, general manager of JR Motorsports in a press release. “Our hearts go out to Michael and his family, and to the family at TMC Transportation, which has been a big part of our team in so many ways. As a huge supporter of motorsports, we have lost one of its true champions in Harrold Annett.”

Harrold Annett, in addition to being Annett’s father, began TMC Transportation by purchasing the flailing Mickow Corporation Trucking Company in 1972. According to Bloomberg, TMC Transportation was officially founded in 1986. In 2013, Annett created an Employee Stock Ownership Plan, which meant TMC was officially an employee-owned company.

Before sponsoring the younger Annett’s racing efforts beginning in 2007, TMC Transportation had sponsored several other race cars over the years including Sammy Swindell’s No. 1 sprint car.

According to JR Motorsports, since joining their team in 2017, TMC Transportation has been much more than a sponsor. The company actually helps the four-car team get their machines from North Carolina to the West Coast by supplying the team with reserve hauler drivers for the long drives cross-country.

JR Motorsports will have a special decal on the roof rail on all four of their cars this weekend in Las Vegas honoring the elder Annett, and the younger Annett’s No. 1 car will carry the tribute to his father for the remainder of the season. Likewise, the team will place a tribute on each of the team’s four haulers for the remaining balance of the 2021 NASCAR Xfinity Series season.
