UPDATE Monday, February 8th: On Monday Morning, David Gilliland Racing officially announced that team owner David Gilliland would return to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at Daytona.

“Ricky Benton and everyone at Black’s Tire and Auto Service have been like family to me over the years,” said Gilliland. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to get the behind the wheel again in a truck and to represent Ricky’s company. Getting to drive a truck that I own is neat, and I hope this is just one of several races I get to participate in this year.”

“David has been a part of the Black’s Tire family for a long time,” said Benton. “We couldn’t be happier to support what he is building at DGR. They have fast trucks and an exciting lineup of drivers and we look forward to joining David and the No. 17 team in victory lane in 2021.”

In a press release, the team states that the No. 17 Ford F-150 is scheduled to run a part-time schedule in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2021. Taylor Gray will make his series debut at Richmond Raceway.

David Gilliland – partial owner of David Gilliland Racing — will return to competition in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in next weekend’s NextEra Energy 250 at Daytona International Speedway.

According to a Facebook post by Black’s Tire, Gilliland will pilot the No. 17 Black’s Tire Ford F-150 for David Gilliland Racing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at Daytona on February 12th.

Despite a NASCAR National Series career spanning 17 seasons, Gilliland will only be making his 18th NCWTS start in the February 12th event at Daytona. However, Gilliland brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table, making over 400 starts across NASCAR’s top-three series.

The No. 17 Ford F-150 only has an announced schedule of seven races in 2021, with Taylor Gray scheduled to make his first starts in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series beginning at Richmond.

In January, a representative from David Gilliland Racing confirmed to TobyChristie.com that the No. 17 Ford F-150 would run the majority of the 2021 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series campaign, with the possibility of the entry going full-time.

Gilliland will serve as a teammate to Hailie Deegan (No. 1) and Tanner Gray (No. 15) in the season-opener at Daytona, in hopes of bringing the organization their second-ever victory.

TobyChristie.com has reached out to David Gilliland Racing for comment on Gilliland’s Daytona run, but has yet to recieve a response at the time of publishing.
