Now, here is a stunning throwback paint scheme. Austin Dillon’s No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet Camaro will throw it back to Junior Johnson’s legendary No. 3 car for the Southern 500 Darlington Raceway throwback weekend. RCR made the reveal on social media on Tuesday:

The scheme is a great representation of Johnson’s classic scheme from the days when he drove for Ray Fox back in 1962 to 1964. Johnson won nine races in Fox’s No. 3 car. Of course, Junior Johnson was a 50-time winner as a driver in the NASCAR Cup Series and he was an even more prolific car owner.

As an owner, Johnson won 132 races and six championships in the NASCAR Cup Series. Johnson was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in the inaugural class in 2010.

Johnson, dubbed the Last American Hero, passed away on December 20, 2019.
